230 oil pumps

Post by outpostm37 »

Just a note for those rebuilding their engines:
I purchased a new Melling oil pump for the M37. Box said part number M37. Inside was a civilian pump which is different than the military (T245A) engine. Pump was returned. See the pic below.

That is Melling's part number for that pump, I think it's an unfortunate coincidence that the number is M37, but they aren't saying it is for the T245 used in the M37.

I contacted Melling pump technical services with pictures of both the REAL M37 pump and the civilian oil pump with pics.
Their response was this:
Sorry – The pumps that Melling would offer are the M-37 & the M-37R which are the only pumps that we would offer for the Dodge 230. You may want to try EGGE machine, ph. 866-586-3443 they offer hard to find parts from the years 1900 – 1980.
Just want to warn folks with T245 M37 engines that they may receive a civilian style pump (center distributor tang machining) in the box labeled M37.

John, what company made the correct M37 oil pumps? I sent pictures of both oil pump drives, centered and offset. The Melling technical group never saw an offset tang drive. Hmmm....... Did any company make higher volume pumps for these engines ?
Price on the NOS correct pumps please.

How about a link to the pump on your site!
Should have been in your first post.
