rear wheel hub replacement

I have 2 studs snapped off in my driver's side rear wheel hub. They are in so tight the easy out snapped out when I tried to remove them. Now I can't even drill them to try another easy out. I was thinking of buying a replacement hub but was told the hubs are mated/balanced to the brake drum and it is not feasible to replace the hub. Does anyone have any experience with replacing a wheel hub? Seems like it should be pretty straight forward.

How far in the hole is it broken off? If it is flush or close to it you can lay a nut centered over the broken stud and easy out and weld through the center of the nut welding the stud to the nut. Then let everything cool for an hour or so and it should wrench right out easily.

broke off 1/2" into the hole.

Have a local shop EDM the holes. Not that costly.

Somewhere on my other computer I have a bookmark for some tools that a guy made. Basically a bolt with a pilot hole in it that you start into the hole and it centers the drill bit to drill out the broken bolt. In your case you will need a carbide bit for the easy out. I hate easy outs because just in the way they work they wedge the bolt tighter against the wall of the hole and invite just what happened to you. Left handed drill bits are the savior of all those with broken bolts and studs.

In a Perfect world it is advisable to keep hub's/drums mated because the drums are supposedly
Turned true with that hub.

If it were me and I couldn't get the studs out I would find a replacement nos or used hub and roll on.


The drums are so thin that you probably couldn't turn them anyway.
If you get a pulsating pedal when your done you know where the problem is.
Honestly, You will probably never even notice a difference.

G741 wheels studs are just pressed in, so press the old ones out. Press new ones in. Easy.
