Still around, new hobby, military radios!

Post by creinemann »

Gosh, I haven't been on here in a long time, good to see some folks around still that helped me out with my truck over the last...OMG 15 Years!
I'm still alive and kicking! Been working on a new hobby as time permits, restoring old military radio sets. Did a few of them over the winter and spring this year. Kinda fun, never did anything like it before, but learned (and am still learning). Posted the additions to my M37 stuff over on my site http://dodgem37.com or http://m37.crwdesigns.com

Wow Carl it has been awhile! Glad you checked in! Did you ever find that S256 shelter you were looking for, way back when?

Speaking of Radios, my PRC77 won't receive on the High side-is that something you can fix?
Please advise, thanks,
Gary

Never did get the S256, and that's ok...no room.

I haven't had the chance to work on a PRC-77, but I know a group that could offer advice. http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/milsurplus
a few members talked me through some fixes I couldn't get a handle on.

Hey Carl,

Great to hear from you. Hope all is well. I remember speaking with you when you lived in Ohio.

I have one of those "Angry5" radios myself. Great rig.

Take care :)

Ah, the venerable PRC 77. When I was in ROTC at Nebraska in the mid to late '60's, we used PRC 10's, which had to be turned by the tone of the frequency. I never got the hang of it. Then, when I was in Ranger School, fall of '69, after airborne school, we had a jump as one of our patrols, and I had an NCO rig a 77 onto me, with the folded up webbing. I just stood there with my hands over my head, and when I jumped,, being night, at the right time I pulled the release, to let the radio down about 8 feet, and when I landed, found the webbing still bundled, and the 77 gone. I reported in to my patrol cadre about my lost radio, and he asked me to describe the cadre who had rigged me, and I couldn't really describe him. My patrol just continued, and I am sure that PRC 77 is still somewhere in the Everglades at Eglin, FLA.

'When I was a District Senior Advisor way south in Vietnam , I carried a PRC 77 when I went out with the Vietnamese, to connect to the 12 back in my little Vietnamese compound, where my SFC kept in touch with me. Let me see if I can find a pic of all this.

Hi Guys --- I have a functioning radio set in my M37 and would love to connect with anyone and everyone who has knowledge and can guide me in getting this tuned in and working right. I do not have a Ham License yet, but am interested in the training required, if my radio is capable of use. I have talked with a couple of the search and rescue guys here, and I do have some local resources, but my radio may be a bit old school for them. My truck is fully set up with the 100 amp electrical system. the wiring to the troup seat mounted radio, antenna etc. I just picked up 3 hand sets that seem to be right for this radio, and I get static on one of them. I know one or two need a little TLC due to loose or broken wire connections. I have pictures of my radio in my Album Photo's for anyone interested in responding.
Looking forward to replies!

Hi Dana,

Nice looking truck and radio setup. I haven't had the pleasure of using the RT-68 but, I know a group of folks who could help you out. you could try the http://mmrcg.org/ The Midwest Military Radio Collector’s Group , we are an informal group that help each other out. We use a list server, rather than a forum, but it works pretty well. check the links on this page as well http://mmrcg.org/links-and-library/

Thank You for your reply and great info! I'll connect with them as soon as I have a minute. Maybe soon it will start snowing, and I can justify being inside.
