Need 4.89's used?

Post by justindearb »

Just wanted to see if there was anybody out there with a set of 4.89 in the chuck or out or used maybe cheaper than the $600 something that they are new, i'm building a primarily on the road truck but I was going to see if anybody had some that I could put in the front that will hardly ever be locked in but I'm not going to have a mismatch gearsin the truck either, I came across some last year cheap I didn't Buy them and I'm kicking myself in the ass so I should see if there was any out there, thank you

are the gears stamped with the ratio or do you count the teeth? i have a diff out of a truck, i'm assuming it's 5.83, but i haven't confirmed.

Isaac,

They SHOULD be stamped, but it's not shown in the pic VPW sent out in their monthly email. But counting the teeth always works too! I've seen a few 4:89 diffs
for sale in the past year..........just never when you're looking for one.

turns out it's stamped right into the edge of the gear, very easy to read. The one i have out is a 5.83, and somewhat rusted. probably a good useable spare, if you were to be making a long trip, but not something you'd necessarily want to start the trip with haha
