So I just rebuilt the carb on my '53. Then left the key on and toasted the coil. Fixed that and added a pertronix ignition. Back to running again.
Now my issue. At idle it is running really rich. So much it loads up in just a few seconds. Open up the throttle and it clears out and runs well.
First question, the screw at the base of the carb, Which way, in or out, leans the idle circut? I set it at 1 1/4 turns out to start.
Next question, Ideas on what to go after to get the rich idle fixed? This carb has alot more parts than I'm used to working with, I know my way around a farm tractor carb, but this one is a bit more complex.

Re: Very rich after carb rebuild
So I think I found my problem, I installed the one check ball upside down. I hope that will fix it.
Can't test it cause I seem to have broke the fuel pump with the hand primer! Dang it. Got a 24V electric on the way.
It always starts out with something simple then when your done, you've rebuilt the whole dang truck!

Sorry but, how do you tell when a ball is installed upside-down?

Re: Very rich after carb rebuild
I put the ball on the top of the spring and I'm pretty sure it's supposed to go under the spring. I don't have detailed drawings, but found a youtube video slide show. Hope it's right. I know there is a TM for the carb, but haven't found an electronic copy online, and don't ever see myself doing another one of these carbs so I couldn't justify buying a hard copy. Funds are tight for this project right now.
I took apart the carb one day, but didn't get to finish it till 2 days later. Guess my memory failed me!
