Hi Guys,
The NewStar reproduction 24V ignition coils have been on the market for the last couple of years now. I believe they're made in Turkey. Anybody have one fail yet? I'm just wondering if we can start to draw a consensus on if they're any good or not.
thanks,
bob

I don't hear much good stuff on them at all on the M151 forum . I bought one for a M151 , its lasted a month so far. I thought they were made in Taiwan ?
Time to time there's American made new ones that pop up on ebay. Cost a bit more though.

Hi Jay,
I've heard they're made all over the place. I bought one either last year or the year before and I'm pretty sure it was marked "Turkey"......but next time I'm in that section of my parts mess I'll look again.
thanks,
bob

You might try talking to John at Midwest. He has been dealing with this coil issue for awhile.
Just a side note; these coils live and die based on the ventilation from the Air Filter to Carburetor "U" pipe to the Distributor. If that is not clean, clear and functioning properly it will kill a coil very quickly no matter where it was made or who made it. These coils like to breathe.

These coils have been out there way longer than 2 years; I'd venture to say 10 years at least. Based on the number of repros that are out there; they actually do have a very good track record. The afore mentioned ventilation issue is VERY important. We have been using these coils in our rebuilt distributors for years; I can only recall 1 complaint of a coil going bad; and I'm not at all sure it was not due to a non-working vent system. We always caution customers to be sure the ventilation is correct and explain how to be sure it is. We field many technical calls here at M Series Rebuild; in fact most of the stories I've heard concerning coil failure issues; in cases I have been able to get to the bottom of the situation can be attributed to the vent system not being operable or has been removed completely. I can't imagine most vendors don't know that the vent system must be functioning properly in order for any coil to live a healthy life. I'm convinced some just stay quiet; after all, I guess repeated failures mean repeated sales.w30bob wrote:Hi Guys,
