I just watched a program about this on Sunday evening.
They had some great interviews with these guys.

He was one tough old bird. I was privileged to hear him speak at a museum in Maryland along with Studs Terkel. It made for a very entertaining afternoon. He'll certainly be missed.

If you haven't seen the Series, it's fantastic-highly recommended to rent or buy it if you can.
