Budd wheels
What's the best way to clean these up? I'm going to start working on my '53 soon and need to get one of the tires replaced. Just need to know what to look for to make sure the wheel is serviceable.

Re: Budd wheels
First get them dismounted, and then look and see how badly they are rusted where the flap rides inside. If they pass the visual inspection get them sandblasted. Nothing hides after they are blasted!
Then prime and paint with your favorite recipe. The lock rings will get beat up a bit when the new tires get mounted so be ready to touch them up.

Re: Budd wheels
For those in the know, will the 900x16 radial tubes work in say a 235/85r16 tire? I want to move towards something that will hold up a bit better than NDTs
Re: Budd wheels
care should be taken when sandblasting m37 bud wheels. there is not much meat on the taper were the lug nuts seat and cracks have been known to form after heavy sand blasting. also inspect the rivet heads under the flap i have seen many rims that the rivet head have rotted away..............granted i ran rims with no visible rivets under the flap for years
.............................. use it ...............
Re: Budd wheels
I'd also add that if your 235s are radials then you'd need to change out to radial tubes as well.

Re: Budd wheels
I figured I'd need the radial tubes, I was wondering if the 900x16 ones would be the trick for a 32"-36" tire. I'm pretty smart with most thinks mechanical, but tires, well let's just say I suck at them about as bad or worse than I type, and I'm about the only 25 y/o I know who doesn't know how to type.
