What is this Test Kit actually for ???

Post by w30bob »

Hi Guys,

I keep seeing these test kits advertised on eBay and the pics are never good enough to read the instructions. So can someone tell me what these test kits are actually used for in regards to an M37?

thanks,
bob

They are used to do electrical tests on all of the electrical equipment under the hood. The adapters help you access the waterproof connectors and distributor. Only one I've ever used is the timing adapter. I bought mine maybe 10 years ago from a dealer for 35 bucks. Prices sure have climbed.

Bob... looking at the pic you posted the thing in the lower right hand corner is used to attach a Tac/Dwell meter to your distributor. The big nut on the top of the the distributor cap is taken off and that thing screws in giving you an electrical hookup to the distributor. To the left of that is a thing that looks like a piece of coax cable with a brass thing on the end is for your spark plug wire. Remove wire #1 from the spark plug. One end of the adaptor hooks to the spark plug and the other end hooks to the wire. This allows you to use a timing light on the motor. You can't pick up a signal for the timing light throught the water proof ignition wire. The two big wires with the big barrel ends on them are for testing the generator and the voltage regulator. I think the little wire thing between the two big ones is also for your distributor, though I never had one in my kit and never had a need to use it. If you own a M serries gas powered MV the kit is a must have to do a tune up on your vehicle.

This kit will take all the pain away from tuning and electrical diagnostic work and a must have for anyone whom owns an M series vehicle. When you use these with your TM publications there is very little that will be left out of a repair procedure. A few years back they were selling for $20-$30, but now $150.00 is the norm.

Ok...I'm sold. Makes sense that I'm going to need one of these kits. Luckily some nice guy here on the forum just sold me one for a very nice price. Now if I can just put it in a spot where I'm going to remember where it is when I eventually need it.............. :(

thanks guys,

Bob,

Write yourself a note, that way you can find it later when you need it.
