If it's years old, "new in box" means little of anything. It depends on the condition of the product, this is especially true with any type of wiring, as the insulation gets brittle and flakes with age, as soon as it hits the ozone, that speeds up drastically; lots of times rendering the cable vitually useless for anything other than scrap.
