Hello Paul,

The forum software does it automatically based on the number of posts you make. The more posts you put up the higher your rank gets. Folks not familiar with this sytem often think the posters with high rank are the smart ones! Which is not always the case.

Just like the service a person who talks a lot and says very little can become a 5 star general in no time at all. :wink:

On some forums I have seen retired military folks use their retired rank insignia as their Avatar. I have never given any thought to using my retired rank.

The Mseries Willys jeeps web site and forum I operate I do not use the automatic rank system.
