Compressor Help

Post by superbee70 »

Getting ready to sandblast and really need a new compressor. Looking at the Quincy 5 Hp two stage vertical machine. Retails for 1299 and for another 150 maintenance kit bumps it to a 3 year warranty. Built in USA. Anyone have any experience with Quincy? Sound like they are still very highly rated. Don't really want to spend 1500 all in but for Made in USA and 3 year warranty think it makes sense. Harbor freight two stage gets great reviews and is half cost but would worry about parts availability down the road. Also looked at IR but only a few hundred cheaper and the reviews I've read shows the quality isnt' there since they started using overseas parts.

Check out Eaton Compressor too, also made in the USA. I have a 7.5hp 120 gallon silent air and it works beautifully. Very quiet. 5 year warranty. Might be worth a look...

I have the Quincy. Worth every cent. My experience in industry led me there. I had IR, Quincy and Saylor-Beale. (from 10HP recip to 150HP screws) The Quincy's were the most reliable of them all.
In our shops we have an 80 Gallon 7.5hp (208 3ph) Gardner Denver from 1955 that is the mainstay of our machine shop. A 5HP QT (220V 1ph) Quincy 60 gallon in the weld shop and a a 5hp QP 60 gallon Quincy (208 3PH) in the mechanical shop.

Quincy has been around as long as air compressors! I have a 1938 Quincy and it still runs like a charm. Still has the original 3.5 horse motor which is about four times the size of a modern 5 horse and probably more powerful than a modern 5 Horse. I have not looked at them in years (obviously) but as long as they are still made in the USA there is a good chance they are still a high quality machine. Much better than what you will get in Tractor supply or Harbor Freight! A 7.5 horse is going to be pushing the electrical supply on most garages. It is fine as long as you do not have any other high draw items on at the same time but that is a BIG compressor for home use.

Pulled the trigger on the Quincy 2 stage 5 HP. Northern tool had a sale for $1199, no tax free shipping except for lift gate service. All made in USA. Hopefully works as well as the comments and reviews. Now to do some sandblasting!!!
