front axle oil seal

Post by CAM »

Hey guys, I know I have been aol lately but I have been busy on the " M" , the frame is all painted, the fuel system is all new up to the fuel pump, brake system has been completely replaced except for drums and shoes. I have all the seals and gaskets replaced in the rear axle, but in taking the front hubs apart all the grease in the bearings and the knuckle is washed out by axle fluid. I have found a brass bushing in the end of the axle tube but I cant find where the oil seal would go. The TM hasn't much info that I can find. This has me stumped.

The seal is inboard of that brass bushing. You need to install the seal, then the bushing. The parts book shows it more clearly. ORD9-SNL-G741 Fig 10-1

Jim,
We use these with a big slide hammer.

You could fab something similar, but it will take some grunt to remove the seals and bushings. I think there's also a puller that VPW sells similar to the factory tool.
