Two questions

Post by superbee70 »

First, on my stock front axle one of the spring plates (also doubles as the shock mount) is welded to the axle tube. Is this stock? It's on the short side of the axle.

Second, does anyone have a source for cab bolts and springs? Mine are pretty ratty and would be much easier to cut off.

No, should not be welded to the mount; Midwest Military or Vintage Power Wagons should have the mounting bolts you seek.

On my front axle, the right side spring U-bolts (clips) anchor and shock mount is welded to the axle tube.

As for the cab mounting bolts and springs, that question was discussed here recently (the search function is very useful!): http://www.g741.org/PHPBB/viewtopic.php ... ngs#p65772

I ordered these bolts and springs from McMaster-Carr to replace the badly corroded ones from my truck:

Springs: https://www.mcmaster.com/#9595k41/=18dmo3a

Bolts: https://www.mcmaster.com/#91257a493/=18dmop8 and https://www.mcmaster.com/#91257a492/=18dmozz

These bolts will have to be drilled for the cotter keys. I ordered the short one for use in the front right mount, and two of the longer ones for the rear mounts. The length of the threads on these bolts put the cotter key above the end of the threads on the 7-1/2 long bolt when used in the rear mounts.

You guys have me re-thinking-I'll check mine again (been many years since I had mine off).

Thanks guys. Was going to try to reuse my spring plate but not sure I can. Swapped fronts to a D44 so it has studs that tread directly into the housing. May try to grind it off and see if it can be used as my shock mount.

Heading out now to see how bad my cab bolts are. May be able to cut bolts and save springs. Thanks again.
