I will get my 230 motor back from the machine shop tomorrow, and have studied over and over the TM"s for the sequence to put my motor together. (I have done a few motors in the past). I have carefully and very thoroughly cleaned all the mating surfaces, other than on the block itself. last night laid out my Best Gasket set, and with the pictures from this site:
http://bestgasket.com/pop_up_picture.as ... ber=RS510C
selected the gaskets and seals that are not likely used in my motor.
My sump rails are in good shape, i even had one of the end metal cork gasket retainers welded more securely. So I am open to any advice for me as to good sealing of my motor's bottom end. Should I just use my gasket set, or here or there add some appropriate sealant. I doubt I can have a totally leak-free engine, but would like to do what I can to make it as dry as possible.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Re: sealing sump gaskets
If you search for "replacing my oil pan gasket" or something similar there was a thread on here that mentioned some really good anaerobic sealants for that job. RTV does not seem to be the popular choice

Re: sealing sump gaskets
There is a trick to using RTV that virtually no one does. (Apply an even bead, let it cure. Then assemble.) But, I still won't use it on an engine for anything. full stop.

think I will just go with the Hylomar for the trump rails. Thanks,

Which rear main seal are you using?

Re: sealing sump gaskets
I have one plus a spare of the inner "rubber" two part seals, plus the little "H" end pieces.
