The cap and chain can be found at any serious electrical / electronic connector outlet. It will be a mil spec cap and chain.

John at Midwest Military should have them. Also the people who build M-37 wiring harnesses in Maine will have them (that is where mine came from - with my harnesses).

If you need the number off the cap let me know.

Chris, If the plug on your map light looks like the end of a light bulb you have a Halftrack map light.

Thanks Steve, I will have to dig that lamp out again, may be time to sell it off.

We have a good electronics shop nearby, I'll have to stop in there and see if they have any caps.

52,

What is the number on your cap? The one on mine is 2209-212 and I can't find a single hit on that number on the web.

thanks,
bob

Chris,

You don't need to sell the map light assy.; only the plug is different between the WW II lights and the M-series lights. You simply unsolder one connector and solder on the other.

Just get the M-series connector.

Chris,

I finally found a source for the cap with the chain on it for this connector. It's an Amphenol cap, not a Cannon, as Cannon connectors in this series are long gone, but it's identical. Once I get it in-hand and verify it's correct I'll post the PN and where to get them.

Regards,
Bob

All of the various size plugs and sockets with and without "dust" caps are built by a variety of manufacturers to mil spec. Search ITT CANNON or AMPHENOL 97 Series and you can find petty much any solution to a plug/socket need.

Look up the link below and you will discover the variety available.

Hi Rick,

Yup.......what you say is correct. The problem is/was that the old Cannon connectors are no longer supported by ITT Cannon and there was no cross reference from the old Cannon part numbers to current Amphenol connectors. Once I measured the aux power connector in the dash I could match it up with a current Amphenol cap, but I really wanted to find some old Cannon dust caps, PN 2209-212, as they are bare aluminum and not anodized like the current 97 series Amphenols. "Close enough for Government work", but not for perfectionist restorers, I guess. The Amphenol PN for the cap in question is 9760-12.

Here's a pic of the original Cannon and new Amphenol dust caps. Close enough!
These Amphenol's are widely available, I got mine on Ebay for $20 for 5 shipped free, so $4 each.

And why the phrase, "I'm from the government and I'm here to help," is one of the most terrifying things in the English language. :D

Bob, if you come across any extras of those hand-held map lights and/or cables, I'd like to acquire one for my M37. I have the auxiliary power receptacle and wiring, just need something to use it for.

Hi Elwood,

I don't have one myself, but I'll keep an eye out in the coming months when I hit the east coast meets. If I see any..........I'll pick them up. Even if you get one before that seems folks are always looking for them.

bob
