Longest trip to date

This Saturday I have a friend that lives 55 miles away and has a farm. We was talking bout setting some telephone poles for a deer stand next to his fields. I worked up a trade, labor for hunting privileges. I gave the truck a good once over, fluid levels, tire pressure, tools and headed out. The truck ran like a champ, no issues at all. Very proud of how it ran. This is the longest trip to date. Usually, I will run it 25 to 30 max, but I wanted to see just how good a truck I had put together.

When I got to the farm we started dragging poles for the stand. This was not flat land! Had to drag the poles through creeks and up some hills that made me a little nervous on the first run. The truck never spun a wheel!

The area we were working in was very tight. IT did not lend itself favorably to the M 37's turning radius. Doing 6 point turns in a Dodge M37 without power steering is not fun! We finished up the day, got the post set and the floor in. The thing is bigger than my first apartment.

The return trip was uneventful as well, no issues. I am very happy with my trucks performance. The only issues (and its more of a quirk of mine) was the transmission is weeping a little fluid as well as the transfer case. Everything else was completely dry.

So 110 miles round trip without incident. Yes, I did take the back roads and avoided highways. It just seems safer for me and everyone else on the road. These trucks are not known for their speed.

Mark,

Glad to hear that your truck performed well during the task at hand. I know that the first couple of times off road feel a bit intimidating, but after that I really never give it a second thought now. I hope that you remembered to take a couple of pictures............

Good story Mark-putting the truck to work is always satisfying, especially when everything goes as planed with no issues!

Picture after dragging up the logs. Time for the skid steer to take over.

Great to see one our trucks out in the woods in their natural habitat. I have been venturing further and further from home, so far all is well, but I am not up to something like your trip yet. Now I need to figure out how to post pictures here since Photobucket cancelled that ability. Nice work, nice pictures.

it would take dragging a big pile of poles to make it spin a tire! they are reliable rigs. fuel efficient doing that kind of work as well. I measured my fuel use on one job skidding logs in axle deep mud all day and only used about 1.5 gallons an hour. I was very happy with that. that was in my old WC52 with arctic cab and lots of tools in the bed boxes so slightly heavier than an M37 maybe
