Re: 383 Mopar powered M37
Thanks for the info - I agree. Yet, it does appear to be the WC truck frame. The video is best for showing how to go about building custom engine mounts and things to consider to avoid problems later.

Re: 383 Mopar powered M37
Videos of big block Mopar engine install in a WC 1/2 ton that include options of making engine mounts/modify cross member. While not a M37, it involves the same issues, but with less clearance than our trucks. Good stuff:) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cO5Rt5NggCA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y...

Re: NP435 Chelsea PTO help needed
It seems my PTO is a 452 series. Also, comparing its parts to the 352 series indicates that I can just convert it into a 352 series by swapping the upper output for a 352 series reverse idler gear 3-p-861 and an end cap.

Re: Brush Buggy Build
Make sure the d- shaped water distribution tube in the block behind the water pump is not rusted out - or hot spots will result.

NP435 Chelsea PTO help needed
Background: I have 2 1970's Dodge NP 435 trans. #1 is from a 1974 W500 and used a hydraulic bellhousing and the longer and bigger 10-spline input shaft. It has a Chelsea 352 series looking PTO - but it is in fact a S452R-A1-GG W74. It has 2 forward facing output shafts with 1 shaft going reverse and...

Re: 383 Mopar powered M37
400 BB - externally balanced - just like my 383. Who knew the last 383 engines were externally balanced? Came as a surprise when bolting it together. Make sure you get the correct flywheel balance from a 400/440 with proper external balance.

Re: 383 Mopar powered M37
57HemiCuda - I have see a few people report using the oem radiator w/o overheating using a big block. Do you know how much hp can the original unpressurized radiator handle? Also - which radiator did you use? It appears to be a FJ40 3-core. I would prefer to re-use my radiator as it is in great shap...

Re: 383 Mopar powered M37
As I am running a PTO driven winch with my 383, I wanted to pass along some info to make the install easier. Fram PH3614 or Mobil 01-104 are Mopar big/small block compatible oil filters that are at least 2" shorter and about 1" narrower than the typical Fram 8A filter (also - signifcantly ...

Re: 383 Mopar powered M37
Posting some info for others doing a front Dana 60 swap. I am using a GM Dana 60 dually. It has an 80" wms to wms - which makes the H1 wheels stick out 4" on the pass side and 8" on the dr side fender. It mounts to the oem lo ation for the leaf springs. My stock 1980's axle shafts are...

Re: its rebuild time
Guides are very hard/brittle - they break surprisingly easily when hit from the side. As for the install tool - an punch tool with an o.d. near the same size as the valve guide i.d. with a washer that sits against the top of the guide works well to drive out old guides. The guides have a taper on th...

Re: its rebuild time
Remove guides by press/punch them down into valve cover area. Then hit them on side to break off lower half of guide before driving remaining piece of guide down bore. You have to break it b/c not enough room for it to drop out without hitting valve spring base.
I made the tool from round stock.

Re: 383 Mopar powered M37
"Narrowing the diff is pretty straight forward, the long side just needed 3.5 inches cut off." I just wanted to point out for others following 57Hemicuda's excellent work that his front Dodge DRW Dana 60 is about 2.5" narrower than the DRW GM version. Taking off 3.5"a front GM Da...

Winch declutch lever
I second what Charles said. My declutch handle is a tad loose on my LU4. I have to move the handle/shaft beyond the original handle engage and disengage points to to use the winch. It is on my to do list.

Locks . . .
I have a keyed door handle on my M37 driver door. I have a spare ready to go that was glass beaded to remove the chrome, primed, painted o.d. and had the shaft cut down to M37 length - $15 plus shipping. Dave Palmatory (Midnight Engineering - New Castle DE) put 12 volt power windows and door locks o...

Or use CJ5/7 front springs
The CJ5/7 used 2" wide springs in the front, same as the M37.
This should help your search for springs to use.
