Ditto - I put my M37 down slopes I could not walk down and over tons of bumpy rock trails during the Central PA SteelSoldier.com Rally 2 weeks ago - and the original B&B carb was flawless.

My Holley carbed Jeep CJ7 (401/T19/D300/D60/D30frt) would not have done so well.

NDT 9.00 x 16 tires - have not been purchased by the military in decades. As a result, the ones out there as surplus are usually dry rotted. In PA- Coleman's Surplus has them on M37/M101 rims for ~$75 off M101 trailers they scrapped. However, the military did put new STA Superlug tires as replacemen...

IMHO: the tire went for cheap for 3 reasons, he did not list them well, they are worn down to 3/8-1/2" tread depth, and they are still mounted on the LAV rims. Many tire shops give up after trying to get them off those rims. This also explains why the other sets in worse condition are not selli...

Making the M37 quieter to drive?

This is my 2nd M37. I was accustomed to tons of gear train noise when driving at 45mph. Talking to a passenger at speed required raising the voice level considerably. Now? I rebuilt the t/c and swaped in a mint rear diff just before going to the SteelSoldiers.Com off-road MV rally last weekend. My s...

Your M37 came with a Ball & Ball EW1 carb. Its accellerator pump is not controlled by the throttle/gas pedal. Therefore, pumping the gas pedel will not prime an engine with the B&B carb. The M37 Operation Manual advises against pumping the gas pedal for this reason. So you are wondering why ...

Focus on basic. The tube to dist mounts between carb and air filter. It has no vacuum and does not effect running. Like to run better when choke is used? So it runs lean and relies on the choke to get enough vacuum to draw gas out of the carb. Why? 1. Carb not allowing enough gas in - adjusted idle ...

MM got it right. I'm not talking the lever on the f/p. I do not run the mechanical f/p. The hand primer looks like a typical aircraft hand primer that is located on the dashboard. They used to be common on 1920-1950 vehicles - especially for vehicles like our BB carbed 230 that lacked an accelerator...

Hand primer

The hand primer was only installed on early M37s. It was dropped as the units frequently developed leaks. It was plumbed off the fuel filter housing - where the square head plugs are located. You do not need it. I added it - makes starting when the truck after sitting for weeks and on cold days much...

Well . . .

Military rebuilt would put the tag above the oil pump onto the block with tiny rivets. With the age of the engine, the tag means little as there are so many variables (how stored/maintenance/abuse/climate). It would be better to get it running and check compression and oil pressure. That would quick...

I know . . .

Speed kills . . . The trans co that shipped my NP200 rebuild kit was clueless. I had them send part to get the kit complete. However, I only discovered this weekend they sent the wrong size needle bearings. All the needle bearings in the kit are 1 size!! Not good. So I got 30 extra smaller size need...
