Re: Rebuild time on the 230 flat head engine

One thing to consider is that you will gain back a little of that lost compression from the over size on the bore. That may be why they dropped the top down to keep the compression stock. I don't have all the parameters to do the math on that engine.

Re: Rebuild time on the 230 flat head engine

.020!? That is a substantial reduction in compression from stock which was already very low. Why would they do that? Are you sure it is .020?

Re: Pulling the flathead 6

It all depends on whether you remember to disconnect it and how hard you pull to get it out!   You didn't think I would let that go by did you? After looking at my linkage that is what I would do, much easier to deal with once out on the floor. Be honest John, That thing has more tha...

Re: 383 Mopar powered M37

Before you go and diagnose all my problems, think about what the truck was doing. A short burst to 92 MPH with 4.56 gears will in turn the oil pump, water pump, and alternator higher then the norm. Burst pressure on Mobile1 filter is 600psi, so don't think that will be an issue. My roadrace cars re...

Re: 383 Mopar powered M37

Nice looking truck! Those gauges also tell me it is running WAY too cold and you are going to have condensation issues in the oil, your oil pressure is too high and you are risking blowing out a filter on the road and you charging system is a tad high also. I know, I know, but after 50 years of buil...

Re: Another green thing to work on, 53 M37

Rear brakes are done and axles back in for now. I will be welding on tabs for the brake hoses and running brake lines to the master cylinder. I need this thing to be able to move and I am not going to have time to swap the third member before surgery. It will be quite a while afterwards before I wil...

Re: Another green thing to work on, 53 M37

Yea, I have a rebuilt third member and another with all the parts to rebuild it. I was hoping to get the rear end back together so I could drive it around the yard with brakes as I worked on the rest of it. I just looked over the other axle and the butt end of it where it goes into the differential ...

Re: Another green thing to work on, 53 M37

Got the brakes completed and on the passenger side and in the process of painting the the other side and I was washing the axle of the passenger side when I found something interesting, and troublesome. The are wear marks on the axle out close to the wheel end where it was scraping on something but ...

Or it could be the beat up and worn out old body, Mine, not the truck! We are both the same age after all.

Re: Another green thing to work on, 53 M37

I tried that before the torch, I was hitting the punch full swing with a 3 lb. sledge! Then I had an air hammer on it with a cut off toll I use for driving, Nada. If you have gotten them out of a M37 this way then you were lucky. That is how I get them out of later vehicles with no problems.

Re: Another green thing to work on, 53 M37

This is for anyone who finds this and is contemplating putting on disc brakes. When it comes tome to remove the backing plates on the rear axle you are going to have to drill the rivets. Do not try to torch them because back when they put these rivets in they KNEW how to put rivets in!!!! Generally ...
