Re: Winch Cable Core

Back when the cables, (Wire Rope) were installed on the winches they used a natural fiber core wire rope. Now you can get wire rope with a synthetic core. I would think a steel core cable would be hard to wind around the drum and might become a mess. https://viperwrl.com/fiber-vs-steel-core-wire-rop...

Re: SC M37

Taking some of the ribbing off was they only way to reduce weight. I talked to an older guy that built hotrod engines when he was working. He said you can remove a lot of metal off of the bottom of the rods. I showed him the picture and he said they look great. We will see.

Time for an update! Nice NOS connecting rods all ready to balance: http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/data/3568/Balancing_3.jpg This fall I worked on balancing the pistons and the rods. Weighing the pistons, rings, pins and pin retainers to find the best combination: http://www.surfacezero.com/g503/dat...

I started using the 'Right Stuff' sealer and really like it. So far after my winch rebuild no leaks. Fingers crossed.

Re: Aluminum and Brass Reaction

What Andy said.

When I put mine together, I used water resistant marine grease on the shaft and put a lot at the top where rain might get in. I know it's not long lasting but something to try. Alan

My spacer was missing once I got the plug out. I had to make one up to fit in there.

Nice to see you are getting back to it. Covid did a job on everyone. During the lockdown having to stay at home I actually got more done on the old M37 than in years past.

Re: M37 Battery's

Down in the bottom of the box is a tray the batteries fit in. It is bolted to the bottom of the battery box and the floor. The long bolts for holding the batteries down fit in holes in the tray. You have seen the top hold down. My tray was rusted and corroded with no long bolts. My batteries were he...

That's great Hal! Keep us updated as to your activities.

I wish I had that much room to work with. But then again it would fill up! Alan

Re: Winch Chain

You ask a good question. I will put a winch on my M37 once it's done. I collected a bunch of notes on the wire rope but no one can tell me the exact length and weight of the chain. I have heard that is is 5 feet long. No one seems to have any. I haven't seen any at shows. Saw an old one offered once...

Re: Selling my M37/M42

Hey Hal, Try connecting with these guys they are in Columbia. I have visited their motor pool area near I-20 in north Columbia. Nice group of guys. I know a number of them keep their vehicle in their motor pool area. Or they might know some credible person that would like to buy your truck. Alan htt...
