Wow.
That is a lot of work! I’m amazed at the finished result. Good job.

Re: M37 "Brutus"
@rcrombie, my post was long before John's accident. That was one serious crash-so sorry you have to do so much rework on your truck, John! Thankfully you are OK and able to repair it. Other than combat damage that might be the most I've seen in the civilian world on an M37. Keep us posted on your p...

Re: M37 "Brutus"
That looks great! A few character marks will blend it in with little time and effort. Well done! Gary Well that’s a bit more than a few character marks!! All seriousness though, glad to hear you’re ok. Trucks can be fixed... sad to see Brutus in that condition though. Hopefully the repairs are limi...

Re: source for new DOT windshields?
Yes it’s the correct stuff. I believe it is two layers.
I should have said, it was cut at a local auto glass shop, so I think laminate is the only type they did.

Re: Trouble getting wood in bed
The truck has a bit of a rake to it where the rear is usually higher. Often over time the springs sag and this can be less apparent.. are you taking this into account? Sorry if this is rather obvious advice. My only other advice is to measure the depth of the pockets and see if there’s anything caus...

Re: source for new DOT windshields?
I had mine cut at a local glass shop. Really reasonable since they are simple, flat pieces. Has the appropriate stickers as well.
This was maybe 3 years ago, and they were able to provide the proper rubber gasket as well.
Cheers

Re: wheel well spec?
I have written down that the rear arches are roughly 45” across and 22”high. I didn’t write down how I took those measurements though.
The front wheel arches are more of an ellipse while the rear ones are pretty well round.

Here is how my hardtop is attached at the front. This is as it came from the military.

Re: Fitting a hardtop... or aligning it as best I can
Hi, There’s at least two styles of hardtop used by the military. One is a modified cckw top with a round window and a few adaptations to make it fit the m37 cab. The other hardtop is the one designed for the m37 which has a sliding rear window. I have also seen a few home built tops adapted from oth...

Re: Dash power outlet question
I understand it was a “map light” that plugged in there.
I don’t have any pictures though, but I do recall a discussion either on here or steel soldiers about it. I’ll hunt around and get back to you if no one else does. Otherwise someone else might know more.

Looks great!
I always thought it was funny that they still decided to paint the engines bright silver when everything else on the truck was a flat olive green.

Re: Leaking differential seals
What Bob says. I just went through this with the rear differential on my truck. A new neoprene seal with a sleeve on the yoke fixed it right up. There is also information on this site about using the outer shell from the leather seal, and replacing the inner portion with a modern viton seal. While t...

Re: Brake Lines
You can buy stainless steel spring tubing armour. It’s exactly like the original, except in stainless.
I figure that plus one of the the modern brake line alloys like cunifer would appropriately modernize things.

Re: Steering Worm and Bearings
Thanks for documenting this Sturm! I will have to check out my leaky steering box at some point, so it’s nice to see what I’m in for. I like the trick of welding the washer into the race to remove it. I have also heard simply welding a bead on the race can be enough to shrink it to the point it come...

Re: Need help finding TDC
Just a thought that came to me reading this. I had a similar issue where the truck idled, drove nicely at slow speeds but would die on hills and couldn't get out of third gear on a flat road. Turned out to be a pinhole in the fuel line where it passed the transfer case cross member. There was enough...
