Re: What is this for?

Can't tell from the photo: is that hollow or solid? It looks like a short length of flared tubing with a flare nut.

Re: First Start Oil Priming

There was a write-up of a homemade engine pre-luber using a 20lb. propane tank (empty, of course) on the dodgepowerwagon.com website, but I can't find it now. I saved it as a PDF, so if someone wants it, message me with your email address.

Re: Gun Ring on M37

David Doyle's Standard Catalog of U. S. Military Vehicles, 2nd Edition has a good examination of the gun mounts used on tactical wheeled vehicles in Appendix 1. The M24A3 mount (which sturmtyger referred to above) was designed for the G-741 trucks, and differs in detail from the earlier M24 mounts w...

Re: Steering Worm and Bearings

Thanks for the great write up! One of these days I'll get around to fixing the leaks in my steering box and this will be a huge help. I did have one question, is the inner bearing race on the shaft integral with the spiral gear? It sure would be nice to be able to salvage the steering shaft if the ...

I figure that plus one of the the modern brake line alloys like cunifer would appropriately modernize things.
This is the solution I went with.

Re: Starting an M37

My M-37 ( 1953 ) has the stock military fuel pump that has a priming arm. My understanding is that the military required that feature for the very reason that these trucks sit a lot in the military so they wanted the GI in charge of the vehicle to be able to lift the priming arm a few times to prim...

Re: Starting an M37

Does anyone have any pictures of the entire pump and lines to where they go. Where it is mounted on the dash, and how it connects to the carb or intake?? Thanks Steve Here's an old thread with a series of good detail photos by Storm Stevenson (who sadly passed away in April 2019, his forum name was...

Re: Steering Worm and Bearings

Looks good.

When I did the bushings in my Gemmer box, I discovered that the replacement bushings were too tight after installation and had to be reamed and honed for the correct fit to the shaft.

Re: Squealing bearing

Hello Everyone, Well, took Fiona for about a 15-20 minute drive this morning and find that I have a bearing squealing at higher RPMs, about the time to shift. It sounds almost like a throwout bearing, but it is doing is in neutral and when driving, and with the clutch in or out so I don't believe i...

Re: weatherstrip care?

A non-petroleum based grease is recommended for natural rubber. Most people use a silicone-based grease, although I'm partial to the old castor-oil-based red grease from Castrol. I'm not sure what the new production seals are made from, but if it's a synthetic rubber such as Buna-N (aka nitrile), th...

Re: Rear engine mounting bolts

How long are the rear engine bolts? In the manual it shows that they are made for cotter pin and castle nut.....can they be found easy at big box stores and are they grade 8? See Fig. 01-6 in ORD 9 SNL G-741. The rear mounting bolts are p/n 7373656 and are described as 2" in length. I doubt th...
