Re: Fuel problem

Yes - fuel in the crankcase is NOT good and usually a sign of a problem with the fuel pump (typically a diaphragm gone bad). Re: New to me '52 M37

When wiring that oil pressure relay, how do you wire it so the fuel pump runs when starting, or if you want to prime the fuel lines? Do you just have a bypass switch to force the pump on?

Re: 251 oil dipstick length

Mystery solved!

If you are changing the filter as well, 5 Imperial quarts = 6.005 US quarts. I probably leave more than that in the bottom of the bottles when pouring them.

Re: 251 oil dipstick length

Interesting twist here: The manual for the M37 CDN (CDN-VEH-D114) with the 251 engine says "The capacity of the engine lubricating system is 4 quarts (refill) or 5 quarts if the oil filter has been drained or replaced." (Pg 13) For the US trucks with the 230 engine, TM 9-8030 says "Cr...

Normal oil consumption?

The post by ez8 about excessive oil consumption reminded me of something I've often wondered: What is considered normal oil consumption for a 230 or 251 engine? Does it vary significantly based on driving conditions: running around at 40-45 MPH vs in-town local driving or "parade duty", to...

There are apps for that. I have one on my phone. Just search for "image resize" in the app store for your phone.
