Re: 1954 M37 rebuild thread
When I got my truck in '17, it was already running, and without rust, just "patina". Still, being retired, I spent a year, nearly full time, on my own restoration in my garage and my driveway, something I could do in warmer SC. It was work, and not without some difficult and frustrating is...

Re: Lu4 winch worm shaft bearing back lash
I didn't find it tedious to try different gasket sets to set the mesh on my LU 4 rebuild. I did it with new seals installed. Mine was on my workbench, of course. Hal

Re: M37 door marking question
Can't contribute to the question of the marking, big the pic of the Vietnam truck looks like it is parked in a salvage yard, flat tire and all. Pretty beat up truck. hal

Re: 1954 M37 rebuild thread
I understand how some of our hobbies sometimes become less interesting to us as time passes. Me, for decades I was really into all parts of photography including my own darkroom, and lots of equipment for that hobby. Now, I just take some family pics on my cell phone. I used to track my Cobra and ot...

Re: Winch Conversion
I found on my winch truck, that it is near impossible to access several of the PTO bolts with the system mounted in the truck. And the big bronze gear is at least a thousand dollars if you can even find one. Mine works after a lot of work to free it up and rebuild it, but it would be a lot easier to...

Re: Hints/Risk's Removing tank filter plate
'all good since, and my concern was because I did this in the heat of the summer, and my tank had perhaps 5--10 gallons in it, and draining it was not an option. With a new top plate and new screws and gaskets it was an easy and ultimately safe repair. Welcome to our forum. Hal

Re: My truck's new home
This is turning out to be a great experience for me. I was out again yesterday, about 15 minutes door to door, this time just me. A few days ago, was there with about three other members, and they suggested we drive the several blocks over to the US Property Disposal Yard, for a look-see. All sorts ...

Re: SC M37
other than rebuilding a few TR and MG engines long ago, and my M37 experience, I know nothing about rebuilding engines. But thinking about the stresses on a con rod, I would suspect the maximal stress is when the combustion slams the piston down, ie, stress on the upper part of the big end bearing, ...

Re: Winch Drum Bushing Pins
I used the press at the Ft Jackson auto shop to insert mine. It was a tight fit, can't imagine the bushing would be likely to spin with a pull. hal

Re: SC M37
my machine shop balanced my engine, rods, and I think flywheel too, and while I have never driven or even ridden in any other M37's, my motor does seem to be really smooth. I also keep my speed down to 40mph, with the OEM gearing and NDT's. Read about the tendency of these long stroke rods to break ...

Re: 251 oil dipstick length
I can't help you with hour question, but as no one has chimed in here with their thoughts, I would suggest that as long as you know how much oil should be in hour longer motor, you can scribe the correct line on your dispstick. Not perhaps OEM, but would work until you can find out if there is a dif...
