It isn't the weight that's important so much as the GL spec. I don't remember exactly, but you should use GL3 and not GL4, or maybe use GL4 and not GL5. If you go one number too high it DESTROYS the brass that's very common in the older gearboxes.

Brian In Oregon is regularly posting on his 'native' forum, I think Nivek is as well but I haven't seen him lately that I recall.
I'm curious about Charlie as well, and PoW/Dennis G. I miss reading about the 3-53N M37!
I've been around since the M37 Netzine days under the same handle.

M1009 had 3.08 axle gears and would do in excess of 120 MPH - some guardsmen got in trouble for doing so!

It has been mentioned here (or maybe BE or even the old M37 Netzine) that lapping the valves is oftentimes worth a good boost in compression.

I have an old Hot Rod how-to book, close to 50 years old. It states the best power increase in the Mopar flathead 6s is to port-match the block to the manifolds, it seems Chrysler wasn't in to precision casting much back then.

Could be a burnt valve, could be a stuck valve.
My M37B1WW only had 40-45 PSI cranking pressure, it was NOT powerful!

It's been said before that Gillispie is mil-spec paint while Aervoe is only mil-spec color.

That truck would get a lot more views if it was listed under "Military Vehicles" or "Power Wagons" than in the category it's in.

The 6BT won't fit without radical surgery - like moving the firewall back to the seat or mounting the radiator ahead of the grill. There just isn't enough room. It's been done, there's been pictures, and they weren't pretty. And then there's the matter of 1100 pounds of motor where there was once o...

If it's a .pdf it's the settings on your computer. I don't remember how to change it though, I don't use M$.

That nice deep front sump would heavily interfere with your front axle.

Use GL-4 not GL-5, GL-5 eats brass and other soft metals.

Re: Detroit Diesel powered trucks?

Josh wrote:I'd LOVE to get a 4-53T in there, but I'm betting it's too long.
It isn't the length so much as the weight, the 3-53N is about 1,000 pounds - about 400 heavier than the 230 - and I think the 4-53N is about 1,300.
I still want a 3-53N powered truck though...

I didn't have my truck very long, less than a year I think, but I drove it a couple hundred miles. I'd have driven it a lot more except the original engine was very sick (40 PSI cranking pressure) and I couldn't afford to rebuild it. I think PoW has the record for the most miles, over 250,000 about ...
