Re: weight of LU4 winch w/cable

Two men can pick up the winch. Does it still have the frame extensions bolted to the truck or the winch or separate? I think I would bolt the winch back on with minimum bolts for the ride home. Leave the bumpers off if wanted. It's not that big a deal to mount. Your looking at 1200 mile ride so I be...

Re: South Dakota newbie

Welcome! Don't be in a hurry to find your truck. There are still a lot on nice trucks out there, although the prices are coming up. I understand staying within your means. Some people can get a poorer quality truck at a cheaper price Due to there enhanced mechanical ability. Just stay with what your...

Re: m37 axles

Yes, the Yoke will lock up if race is backwards.
There ground slightly off center.

The Y can be very faint and hard to see. Not necessarily a stamp. but an etching.
Have seen some with a symbol or dot also.

It's marked.

Re: m37 axles

You probably have the Double bearing race installed backwards. There is a etched "Y" on the double race and it needs to point Toward the yoke. Do you have the spline spacer installed right behind the yoke? The depth is pre set. All you can do is adjust the back lash. Don't forget the ring ...

Re: Instrument Panel Circuit Breaker

From memory here, it mounted behind the gauge cluster on the left side
At the edge between the two gauges.
(Batt,/Temp)
Screw through the cluster.

Sorry no picture but is in TM 9-8030

Re: m37 axles

The 300 ft lbs is the torque for the pinion yoke nut. To set the preload, you install the spacer between the double roller Bearings, effectively isolating one bearing to get the preload While rotating the yoke. You want 10 to 15 inch Lbs. If less than 10 inch lbs. the spacer is to thick. If preload ...

Re: 5 speed ?s

Don't know of any that will bolt up, with out some type adapter.
Not sure about the 48 2 ton but I will guess it's a larger
Bell/clutch, bolt pattern.

Remember not all 5 speeds are OD.
in fact most are direct drive.

Re: Brake shoe

Should have a "primary and secondary" shoe on each wheel.
One is longer(secondary) than the other.
The short shoe goes toward the front longer to the rear,

Re: genny wants to be a motor

The Amp(current) contacts in the regulator are stuck.
Could also possibly two wire frayed together.
When you apply voltage to any Generator through the current terminal it will
Run like a motor.
Cheap way to check one also.
If it runs as a motor, it will charge as a Generator.
