Re: 1951 M37 4bt Modern Repower
A 4bt is used simply because the builder wants one. There is no $$$ gain to installing one. The mileage is irrelevant. If the 4bt averages 20 mpg, and the BB averages 11mpg, then we are talking a mileage savings, or difference of 9mpg. Whatever money that 9mpg may save is lost at every service, and ...

If memory serves, I think they are 5/8NF. I'd double check with a tape measure though...

Re: Interesting M for sale
I wonder how it rides with the front shackles resting against the frame? Whats up with the exhaust on the drivers side? I wonder how long it'll take for the front pumpkin to self-clearance the oil pan? Does it only run on 4cyls? Where are the coil packs on the drivers side valve cover? I do like the...

Re: M37 Repower, Reaxle
The c14 is a bolt in affair, with only some clearancing of the spring perch required (its wider than the 2" wide spring, so the Ubolts won't clear the perch without some grinding) I can't speak about the Dana 60 rear, but the c14 didn't pull my spring packs out of alignment. The stock Ubolt pla...

Re: M43 converted to a camper
thanks for all the good ideas, going to be picking up a welder in the next week or two and hope to start some work. I am still not sure how to mount removable seats in the rear yet, kicking that one around this weekend. A simple receiver (like your trailer hitch) might be the easiest way to mount a...

Surplus or retired Light plants or water pumps?
Auctions would probably be the best bet, or farming estate sales...

Re: M37 Repower, Reaxle
A diesel repower with the 4bt has been made to work with a passenger side drop axle, either the original axle, or a newer Dodge/GM D44 or D60. With the taller gearing of a modern axle, (4.10's) the stock NP200 should survive just fine. It'll turn slower at a given road speed and negate most if not a...

Re: M43 converted to a camper
There is really nothing better than the great outdoors... The more time you spend in it, the better you get at it. The outcome of your interior will depend a lot on your fabrication skills and what you can, and can't live without. As for bed space, I would think that a fold-up bunk style bed would w...

Re: hanging pedals
Having seen some Kugel setups in the hot rod world, I can say they make nice stuff, but it's pricey compared to the Helitool setup. Also, another option might be the individual hanging pedals offered by Wilwood for racing applications. Although by the time you've mounted everything and figured out t...

Re: Frame Repair Help Needed
As an alternative, you could also just shape the hole round, and sleeve it with a piece of tubing, welding both ends. It would be every bit as strong as the factory piece and 98% of people won't even notice. Unless you're going for a concourse show winning restoration. If so, just replace the whole ...

Re: M43 converted to a camper
I have an M152 that'll be getting the same treatment eventually. I was considering some fold down beds from the side walls, as well as some fold flat bench seats from an RV or trailer (Chevy holiday vans from the 80's might be good place to start looking for idea's, or Volkswagon Micro bus). A radic...

Re: Project: Old Guard - lots of pictures
After almost two years of hibernation, I decided to pull the M out of its mothballed storage and take it for a tour. The impetus was the A&W "Cruise for a Cause" to support MS research, and an open invitation from the local Jeep club to "convoy" with them. With some 200+ vehi...
