Re: Gas Line Replacement Specifications

Quick update now that I've finally had some time to work on the truck. I picked up a 25 foot coil of 5/16 line and a bag of 5/16 flare ends. I've since discovered that I purchased 5/16 ID line and the truck is 5/16 OD Wow, I had no idea there were options either way. Hopefully this post helps someon...

Re: Gas Line Replacement Specifications

Hey there Nam, Thanks so much ! Sorry, I've been out of pocket for a week now... I did the the chance to pull the Gas Line from my Spare Chassis so I have the right dimensions to work with. This allowed me to measure the Flare fitting, which is a 5/16 NPT 20 . Good Stuff !! The really odd thing I di...

Re: Gas Line Replacement Specifications

Thanks Nam ! I was in the middle of ordering the Gas and Vent lines when I realized I don't know what the Specs the Fittings are ? Arghhh. Are the all 3/8 20 or 3/8 24 or are there different sizes along the length ? My leak is just over the rear wheel. The whole line is brutally rusty. Funny, I repl...

Gas Line Replacement Specifications

Hi folks, I was searching for the specifications on Gas Lines and went to the trusty Service Manual. Thought that I'd copy the data here if someone was looking for a handy reference. ( Reference Document TM 9-8030 section 141 page 212 ) "If replacement fuel lines are not available as assemblies...

Re: Sudden Loss of Brakes - No Slick

I was looking up within the CDN service Manual and Brake Lines are not well explained there ! Looking deeper today. I found much better data in the TM9-8030 ! Install Lines from Axle Tees to Wheel Cylinders. 1) For the line (P), use a 41-inch length of ,1/4-inch seamless tubing, flexible conduit cov...

Re: Sudden Loss of Brakes - No Slick

Hey there RMS,

do you know if the rear lines are

Size - thread
3/8" - 24 x 9/16" - 18 ?
This is one dimension not articulated anywhere I have searched.

My rear lines are 1/4 inch, on my spare rolling chassis, the truck itself has the armour lines, which are hard to gauge.

Thanks again

Re: Sudden Loss of Brakes - No Slick

Awesome feedback thanks very much Cal_Gary I had a good long look at the lines and there are several spot fixes around the original ones. They all have to go for sure. With winter setting in, I am going to have to try to field fix the one line and then repair the whole system in the spring. ( The tr...

Re: Sudden Loss of Brakes - No Slick

Thanks so much for the pointers.

I'm guessing you picked up the Steel Lines from VPW ?
Was there anything else when you were under the Truck, that made you say, "If only I'd ordered that xxxx, life would have been so much easier " ?

Best regards,

Re: Sudden Loss of Brakes - No Slick

Yes Please ! I will indeed replace all hard lines. Funny, the Flex Lines are all in great condition, must have been changed at one point. I looked at MidWest's Hardline Kit and through the M37 Alternative Parts Finder to see what options I have. If you guys have a source that has good product with d...

Re: Sudden Loss of Brakes - No Slick

Mystery solved ! The rear brake line was perforated and leaking at a rusty spot. I guess it got to a point where the wall was so thin, the smallest amount of pressure ruptured it. Very interesting. I compared the newer MC on my truck with the older parts doner. The Parts Donor still had the switch w...

Re: Sudden Loss of Brakes - No Slick

Hey there It's the original MC. I'll take a look at the fluid level this weekend, I was so supprised that there wasn't any leaks, given it stopped working all at once. However in the Manual, all reasons for "Loss of Pressure" lead to some form of fluid loss somewhere in the braking system....

Sudden Loss of Brakes - No Slick

Hi folks, This is really interesting. I jumped in my rig, turned around to hookup my plow and discovered that I had zero resistance with the brake pedal. Brakes have been working perfectly for years under very low use. There are no visual leaks and nothing obvious when depressing the pedal. The only...
