Radios for a USAF truck
I was originally going to mount the huge RT68 radio set (with that large heavy mount) in the bed but got to thinking about what radios an AF truck would actually have. Most radios I see seem to be for the Army or USMC. Does anyone have an idea what radio the AF would have in a truck? I guess there m...

Re: Driving speeds?
Mine loves about 30 mph. At 40 to 45 it's way too loud and shakes. Though when I have to drive like that it's ear plug time.
Maybe the drive line does need balancing.

Re: Engine idle - vacuum question
The idle mixture screw only affects the carb when the truck is at idle. I have made this mistake before. I tend to run with the "cruise control" pulled out to advance the idle speed just a little. Remember that proper adjustment of the base idle mixture can effect the carb up to 20 mph, th...

Viton accel pump
I was looking at an old post about using a Carter Viton pump cup in our ETW1s. Does anyone have an update on this?

Re: Drifting floats
I'll look through my stuff and see if I have the one piece needle. My fuel pump is stock so the pressure should be OK.
Come to think of it, it's been ten years since I overhauled the pump, maybe I'll do that now too. It's much easier to get to at this point.

If it was originally a USMC truck, it should say so on the data plate.

Re: Drifting floats
I ordered a Carter float height gauge which should be here soon. I noticed in the fine print of the carb sheet that if you have the three piece needle (needle, pin and spring), you should put a 050 feeler gauge between the tab and needle when setting the float. All the carb kits I have come with the...

Drifting floats
Hi everyone, long time no see. I have been rebuilding my ETW1 and researching the quirks and secret settings of the carb. I have several carbs, at least two of which appear to have been rebuilt by the Army in the seventies and never opened since then. I opened them up to take a look at the differenc...

Re: Military Collectors TV Series
I have not seen the episode yet but have been spending the weekend with Bob, the owner of the M-20. He's a member of Dixie Division and we have had a display of vehicle here at Barber's Motorsports Park for their HUGE motorcycle rally. HUGE! I will pose some photos in the next day or so. You guys sh...

Re: Air Force M37
I sought the answer to this question too. Lifer, who served in the AF and was a great member here and is now deceased, told me that the pioneer kits were only issued when they were needed. If your truck lived on the flight line, there is little likelihood of you needing to dig out of the mud. Also, ...

Re: Governor adjustment
If you preset the inner and outer adjustments before putting the unit back on the carburetor, it will be easier to adjust once on the truck. I tried doing it myself but eventually had to have a buddy run the pedal while I watched my military tach and adjusted both. It was a process but I got the sur...

Re: i can't take it. I'm going 12 volt...
My truck was 12 volts with a unknown starter (which is gone now) and I am using the same flywheel. My all new 24volt system with electronic ignition is great. I do get some light flickering at night but I think it's a ground. It charges fine. I use a cut-off switch while not driving it.
