Re: engine dies after 3 min

You don't have the gas cap screwed all the way down do you? It's supposed to be loose unless fording. If it's screwed down tight it creates a vacuum in the line.

Re: head lights

I think those are sealed beams with the air evacuated like a tube. Back in the old days of vacuum tube technology there would be a dark spot called a "getter" on the inside surface of each tube. As part of the evacuation process at the very end after the tube was sealed the getter would be...

Thank you.
Where do you get the Form 4655T Carter ETW1 Dodge Truck (Military) instructions?

Re: engine dies after 3 min

I wonder if the fuel pressure at your carburetor fuel bowl may be off (too high?). The original mechanical fuel pump by spec delivers 4 to 5-1/4 psi. The original mechanical fuel pump has no filter between it and the fuel bowl so the max fuel pressure at the bowl should be 5-1/4 psi or less. The flo...

What is the engine basic idle speed

Can anyone tell me what the engine idle speed is supposed to be set using the carburetor idle screw and where they found it in the M37 manuals?

Re: brake fluid

Sometimes the color is hard to see. Put some water in a small glass container. Add a little of the brake fluid. Swish/stir/shake it around, in other words mix it up. If it blends with the water, it's DOT 3/4. If it forms little beads at the bottom of the glass and won't mix with the water, it's sili...

Re: Setting Carb Float level. Help!

Both the tech manual and the ETW1 spec sheet say 5/64".
Attached is some info, plus the procedure to adjust the float.
What's the tolerance on the float tool you printed?
You ought to figure out a price, there are probably more than a few of us that would like to buy one.

Re: NP200 Question

Wasn't that in the Zentmeyr (?) or equivalent little parts interchange booklet that he put out? I was just looking thru it this weekend and from memory he mentions a WW2 Dodge 3/4 ton transfer case that has a gear ratio that moves the shift points out so that you basically get gearing in between whe...

Re: Lean Surge ???

Some thoughts. If I read the tech manuals correct these trucks either had a sintered type fuel filter in the engine compartment or a filter in the tank in the fuel pickup tube (one or the other but not both). Is it possible that two filters in the fuel line may have dropped your fuel pressure at the...

Re: original bolts and washers for m37

If you want to get an exact replacement that is marked like the original from the factory I would call Midwest Military, Memphis Equipment, Vintage Power Wagons, etc. as they have a large amount of parts trucks and if you're willing to pay the extra for someone to remove it give them a call. Just pe...

Re: original bolts and washers for m37

A lot of the fastener parts are quoted in the parts manual by their mil-spec (MS) numbers. A lot of the parts can still be bought commercially using those numbers online from Grainger, McMaster-Carr, Aircraft Spruce, etc. Some of the MS numbers have been cancelled but the vendors still list them und...
