Re: Craftsmans-sucking big time....

I've had decent luck, believe it or not, with Stanley wrenches. I originally bought them because the 10mm in the set was much longer than normal, about the length of a typical 14mm wrench, and I liked that I could get the extra leverage. Havent had any issues with them stretching or rounding stuff o...

Looks nice, cleaning and painting engines is not one of my favorite things to do. Always seems to get transfered from the engine onto me.

Re: a date which will live in infamy

I was watching a special last night on it, and it was interesting, they were at the memrial over the Arizona, and the park ranger in charge of it said one of the most surreal experiences ever seen was back in the 70's, when a group of Japanese verterans came and were offering prayers and Japanese or...

Re: 318 V8 swap lessons learned

From a manufacturing perspective, my guess is that the government ordered some extra features or parts on the M transmission that were not present in the civvy PW transmission, and so to keep the wrong transmission from going in the wrong truck they changed the bolt pattern to make it impossible to ...

Re: NDT's suck.

I had Power Kings on my rig before the Michelins, and loved them, Very good in slushy conditions, will dig to China in mud/dirt, decent in rocks. Only achilles heel was in wet clay, they would pack up in clay, and they dig so fast that to get enough wheel speed to clear them, you better be moving fo...

Not that I am trying to poach Charles' business, but, if you are more inclined to do it yourself, check out my rebuild thread, I have some good pictures and info on parts I used for mine. Something you might want to consider is a ram assist on the tie rod. This will take about 70% of the load off th...

Gauging Interest: John Deere 4.5L Turbodiesel

Gents: As with all things, Now that I have my cummins, a smoking deal pops up locally on another engine that I really dont need. It's a John Deere 4029T 4.5L turbodiesel. It's in a street sweeper right now, so it has a variable speed vehicle governor on it. I think it would be a nice fit into an M-3...

Lookin good! That's one NICE radiator, isn't it?!?! The fan never runs on mine, there is enough cooling capacity as-is that it only kicks on if I let it idle for about 20 minutes.

I love the fact its 100% US made as well.

Re: Change of plans, AGAIN!

Retiredguy, I took your suggestion and adjusted the length of the rod and it fixed the issue. You hit it right on the head, THANK YOU! That issue was driving me bonkers trying to figure it out, and I had forgotten the rod can be adjusted. WITH the brakes dragging, I was getting 18 MPG with the littl...

Also, gear lash is critical, I know the bull gear in mine had been wiped out by the previous owner not setting the gear lash up right. The steel worm ate the bronze bull. Kind of a David and Goliath thing.

XD, I used a 1978 Chevy C30 master cylinder. I mounted it up using Ray's website as an installation guide. If you feel motived, dig through my rebuild thread and there are some pictures of it in there, otherwise I can dig some up for you later as well. Josh

Re: Dual Master Cylinder?

For me it certainly was! I made a 1/4" thick plate to bolt to the running board where the stocker mounts, mounted up the new one by drilling 5 holes in teh plate, 3 for the original bolts and 2 for the new cylinder. I even used hte original push rod. Works betteer than the stocker, and more imp...
