Re: Is this an M37?
Ok, I stand corrected...? I was given a different story and that the Land cruiser was designed more as a truck and given the heavier mechanics and pointed front was more indicative of the WC series trucks than the Jeeps, the Suzuki was more Jeep like in it's design. I'll ask the guys at the Auto mu...

Re: Is this an M37?
The Land Cruiser was actually based off the Willy's Jeep, and eventually morphed into the more common FJ40 series after it was determined that the Jeep design wasn't quite large enough, and needed more power. The "F" series straight six gas engine in the early 'cruisers (available up 1974 ...

Re: Project: Old Guard - lots of pictures
Awesome job Master. I have a question though, what did you do for the cross over steering? I think I'll do the same on mine. The steering arms for the Dana 60 came from Great Lakes Off Road (IMS). High steer arms for a Dana 60 are really easy to source, almost any off road or fab shop can get them ...

I have access to a tire machine, I just wish I had access to someone else to operate it....lolTim Powell wrote:Thanks Paul.
Wish I owned a tire machine! I'm getting too old to change tires by hand and too cheap to pay someone else to do it.
Either that, or run lighter tires...lol

Re: Fuel Prices
Thank god for Costco - as gas at their station is $1.109 per liter here in the center of BC. Diesel is at $1.439 per liter... Every other station is at $1.159 except for Esso, which has been 5-10 cents higher for some reason than everyone else since Costco's gas station opened over a year ago...

Re: 1951 M37 4bt Modern Repower
Farmers and industry users are a different story up here, as they can run marked diesel, which usually has a purple dye added to it. It is considerably cheaper, as its specified for off road use only, so it carries no "road tax". They also tend to purchase diesel in bulk quantities, so the...

Re: Opinions wanted
I'll second the heli-coil approach... Unless locktite makes a compound that'll do the job. That green locktite stuff works almost as good as welding a bolt right in there once it cures. Although you may never get it apart again if you need to.
Go with the heli-coil....lol

I vote for a tear down and clean up. Then you know what you have and that it will last for the life of the truck. I bought one from Master Yota (Thanks Ray!) some years ago and after some indecision, disassembled, inspected and did some minor repairs. The shift lever was stuck due to corrosion but ...

Re: 1951 M37 4bt Modern Repower
Part of my bias towards installing a diesel engine is that in my neck of the world, they are ridiculously expensive to own and operate. The current cost of diesel fuel alone is almost $1.40 per litre, working out to about $5.60 per US gallon. An Imperial Gallon which is slightly larger by volume is ...

Re: 1951 M37 4bt Modern Repower
3600rpm (ish) in 4th with a 35" tire should net about 60mph with the stock gears on a 4bt. 2880rpm (ish) in 5th at same speed with same tires and gears, sporting a 20% overdrive. Still seems like too much rpm for the diesel to me, but I'm not a diesel guy, I'm a trashy gas lover... :P I can hit...

Re: 1951 M37 4bt Modern Repower
Diesels gained a reputation (deservedly) in the 1980's as fuel-mizers. The old GM 6.2 and the 5.9 Cummins 12 valve would turn out 30mpg, with a 4spd non overdrive transmission, and tall differential gears, usually around 3.08:1 or 3.30:1. But all they were good for was mileage, most of them wouldn't...
