Yeah, that's some heavy cracking going on there. I have seen modern tires with small little cracks that don't go very deep in the the rubber. I am told they are only cosmetic. Is there a date on that tire anyplace? It could be 50 years old.

Glad you got it fixed. Sounds like your truck got a lot of wear like mine. I am re-doing my whole truck and a couple of months ago took the clutch and flywheel out. The clutch lining was the worst I have ever seen. I don't know now the truck was still moving.

That small metal tube I think you are talking about is just a normal big flare fitting that screws into the fitting on the side of the tank. I don't remember the size right now.

Glad you could get someone to work on it. When installing the locking ring, if you examine it well you can see that it is seated in the rim. Not to say that it won't still come out. That's why I wrap a heavy chain around the tire and rim when I inflate.
