Re: distributor gasket

Bert,

I just checked their site and there's no listing for it. A part # search is just as fruitless.

Will a Fel-pro 6464 work?

Do you know its composition? I might be able to just make one.

Those are really nice, and I see I'm not the only one running Interco's on my M.

Re: Brake cylinder part number

For the whole system I think left and right counts, for the rebuild kits, as long as the diameters are right, it should work. YMMV, and I'm a corpsman, not a mechanic by trade.

Transmission questions

So I have an early style 4spd in my 53, the obvious upgrade would be a 420 that's properly refurbed, but I'm looking for more synchros and the possibility of an OD 5th gear (not an absolute necessity). Will a 435 or 465 swap in with minor modification? I'm asking this from a drivability stand point....

Re: Engine troubles

Let me clear that up, those pictured intakes and exhaust aren't mine, nor is my welding currently capable of that. I only have an oxy/acetylene torch. Tubing and sheet can be welded with it, I'm just better with a mig. Cost of doing it yourself would be just for the tubing and sheet. Having it done ...

Re: looking for help

The elbow flooding seems odd. go through a full description of what's going on, heck even posting a video on youtube/ or your favorite video/picture host might help us diagnose your engine. But the fuel thing almost sounds like a loose screw holding the carb together, or a disintegrated gasket, to m...

Re: COIL

Are you having a weak spark across the plug gap? It could be the condensor. Anyways, I have had luck with an Accel coil and an MSD one. I think most any can style 12v coil would work, just make sure you have the ballist resister hooked up, or a healthy stock of condensors for the dizzy. That is assu...

Re: looking for help

Have you adjusted the timing advance at all? Mine with a civy distro runs about perfect with the advance all the way to the lower 10 on the tang of the dizzy. I know that shouldn't be, but I haven't put the vacuum advance back in yet.

Re: looking for help

What else have you done? Do you know when last the carb was rebuilt? Is the fuel line gummed with crud, how about the pickup in the tank? Have you changed the fuel filters recently?

Work cheapest to most expensive. I'd come up and check, but 2k+ miles is a ways to go on a weekend.

Re: Engine troubles

So basically something like on the last page of this: http://www.g741.org/PHPBB/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5180&p=41133&hilit=230+mods#p41133 Possibly that exact link.... Depending on how unyeildy it'd be, a one piece equal length header would be nice, though I'd likely fab a 2 piece one and ma...

Re: Shotgun Question!

An option if you want to go smooth bore again is find a stock long barrel and have it cut to 18.5". if you need tighter than cylinder bore, there should be enought meat to get it cut for removable chokes, or if you only need one type, you can have the end pressed for your favorite choke.

Re: Maybe There is Hope for this Country....

When I take my 53 out around town or to the next town over, I get thumbs ups and waves from pedestrians, over drivers and almost all of the bikers. The older guys look really happy that there's a young guy restoring a 60 year old war horse too.

Re: distibutor 180 out.

Some 120 wet/dry sand paper to the anode and cathode will also clean them up enough to get the spark to jump the gap until you can get the engine running hot enough to burn the extra carbon out of the cylinders.
