Re: Intake and exhaust manifold

You probably know this already, but VPW sells a set of new stainless studs along with the brass washers and cups.
Was well worth it in my opinion!

Pulling the studs was a nail biter...

Re: Tires

I thought that they were now made under the STA brand? I've got Power King Super Tractions which are pretty decent, but I've found the super lugs to be far superior. T EDIT: I was right? I think? https://simpletire.com/specialty-tires-of-america-9.0016lt-lt285-tires?stmodel=sta-super-traxion-tread-e...

Re: Oil Filter Cannister question

In my previous life, I worked for 2 great Chrysler mechanics who were also WWII motor pool mechanics. They always said "never change the gasket unless you have to"! I had a 55 PW at the time. There are 2 size gaskets for the filter cover. The one that comes with the 1100 filter is about 1...

Re: Anyone Buy an Engine From Veteran Vehicles?

Done business with him several times, he lives right down the street from my office. Friendly, seems very friendly and knowledgeable. I wouldn't hesitate to do business again, however I've hard from several people that he has become hard to get in touch with. Old school guy, no cell phone, so maybe ...

Re: Anyone Installed Repro Brake Line Kit

I got my repro kit from VPW. Everything was the right length, etc. it was a pretty painless install, and at the time I had very little automotive experience.

If I remember correctly I had to buy the hoses separately.

Hope this helps!

I've done a bunch of business with Bob, always found him to be a great guy.
I've had trouble getting in touch with him in the past, I say just call him back again.

Re: gaskets on rear axle importance?

FWIW, I have tried both the gaskets and permatex.

I thought that permatex got a much better seal. Hey, I say go for it, you can always change it pretty easily if you need to.

Re: It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World M37

Great pictures! When I purchased my soft top, I thought it would be cool to be able to roll it up like that.
Now that I've had it a year, I realize I would need to take it off, then put it on again.

Re: Lock out hub questions

I have a NOS set of Warn hubs installed, I would say if you get the reproductions of this hub, they may cover the bases as far as what you are looking for. Nice and tight profile.

Re: Soft Top Hardware: J-bolts? Bows to replace straps?

I bought a set of j-bolts, but just never installed them... doesn't seem to be an issue, and it looked like they would be a pain. A year driving around road speed with the soft top/no bolts, no issues. I got a newly made top from Beachwood canvas, it was WONDERFUL, as well as nice and tight. With th...

Re: Replacing exhaust manifold

You may want to look at replacing the studs when you put on a new manifold, I planned on doing it anyway but was surprised at how bad they were regardless. VPW recommends going with stainless. I bought a harbor freight stud remover for $8, was definitely worth the price for how easy it made it. I wo...
