PTO Driveshaft U-joints
I finally got my U-joints apart. Now I need to locate rebuild kits. The local NAPA folks couldn't find anything in their books - surprising, because they no longer ask me "year, make & model." Can someone give me some help finding rebuild kits? Also, do the front & back U-joints ha...

Electrical leak
I installed a kill switch because I found that something is SLOWLY sucking my batteries dry. I assume it is the starter switch, since that is the only thing that is always "hot" with mil-spec wiring. (1) Is this a common issue & is this diagnosis way off base? (2) Would a simple cleani...

PTO driveshaft
Neve a dull day here. I finally got the U joints off and apart from my PTO driveshaft. When I pulled off the front joint, I found that someone has braised the Woodruff key in place. They did a "great" job, as it all fits together nicely. This bothers me - I can't tell whether they braised ...

Excise
Taxachusetts has been at it for ever. Excise tax is a specific tax on your vehicle, per $100 of value. Minimum tax is $5.00. Don't be fooled - states that "don't have" an excise tax are paying it too, it's just rolled into your property tax, whether you have 1 vehicle or 10. As for new tax...

Thanks very much! What kind of kit was used and what can I look for on the vehicle? This is much appreciated. Now to figure out how to restore it!

Data plates
Does anyone have experience with RAPCO's dataplates? I'm looking for some oddballs, like the fording vent & throttle plates, etc. I have etched aluminum & are looking for some replacements. Other recommendations for suppliers? MVdataplates doesn't have what I'm looking for.

Re: Paint scheme
My frame and engine were left in their natural state of rust and dirt. I only concentrated on the outer body when it came time to paint. Mine will never be an award winner so it didn't matter. Funny - mine will never win awards either. I started with the visible metal when I first got my truck - us...

My bad idea - but seriously, who HASN'T considered this?
No pix, so let us draw: [ 0 + -] <----- Visualize the outer brackets as your vise jaws. The 0 is your socket that is just bigger than the end cap you are pressing out. The + sign is your U-joint/shaft viewed from the end. The - sign is a socket just smaller than your right-side end cap. Applying pr...

Air
I wouldn't sweat the paint scheme as any one you described could be considered correct. Just a tip here. You mentioned an air cleaner fording shroud, paint isn't critical, but this is. The shroud is not meant to be installed all the time, here is why. The air cleaner has a screened air inlet openin...
