Fuel Filter

To ad to the "to do" list, check your fuel pickup line in the gas tank. If you have the filter there, it may be clogged. Much cheaper to replace a filter or line then rebuild the fuel pump or carb.

Supplier?

I know that I can get them at NAPA, but is there a "better" place to get them? Is there some magic word I need to use to get good U-Joints?

U-Joints

I'm rebuilding the drive shaft for my PTO driven LU-4. The U-joints have passed the wiggle test. I plan to tear down the U-joints, and if all seems well, clean & rebuild. Questions: is there anything I should replace prophylactically? Should I not flirt with disaster & just replace them?

Pictures!

You'll be sorry you asked for pictures. This is a combination of ones taken by my Dad, Brother and my son. (VERY interesting to see a show like this through the eyes of a 7 year old.) Enjoy. http://www.flickr.com/photos/41037800@N05/sets/72157621878201097/ Cool show. There were troops "from&quo...

I was there!

I took a bunch of pictures - will post at some point. I also snagged a fording shroud for the air filter for $15. :D I only saw one of the M37's Contemplated driving mine there until I realized it was in Webster (2 hrs in an HCV: highway-capable vehicle) instead of Warren (1 hr in HCV). Glad I reali...

"this thread is worthless with out pictures" Amen to that. Glad you had fun, hope the engine problem is something simple like the water proof ignition isn't... I think the problem is oil + water + leaky cylinders = lousy compression. The oil leaks out, so I'd assume the water leaks in, to...

What I did:

I can't help you on which model to buy. The one I have was made for marine (boat) use, but has been discontinued. I'm sure there's a replacement model. Mine is a 4 PSI output, so I don't use a regulator. I have a 5-PSI oil pressure switch, so that the pump will run when the compression is over 5-PSI...

Mudding!

Went playing in the mud with my almost 7 year old as my co-pilot. (It was HIS idea! That's m'boy!) As some background info, this July was the wettest here in the last 70 years - rained ALL but 7 days: "official" total of almost 12". Drove out through seemingly impassable terra...

Re: FYI

Unless you have an alternator I don't think the batteries charge much (or at all) at idle with the original generator. A DC generator puts out current whenever it's turning. How much of that current gets to the batteries depends upon the voltage regulator. An AC alternator, on the other hand, does ...

Boiling?

I haven't had enough coffee yet, so forgive me if I'm way off the mark. As for the bubbles, was your engine hot when you ran this test? If so, you were most likely just boiling off the water. As for the pressure readings, was the engine hot or cold when you took the readings? Were the 90 & 95's ...

paint

I forgot to add, you can also simply use amber lens paint on clear bulbs, I tried the paint on (1) the bulb and (2) the lens, separately, that is. Wasn't happy with either. I finally decided to leave it white. In Taxachusetts, the only non-original part required is a light over the real license pla...
