Re: Torque Wrench: 250 or 400 ft-lbs?
I'm trying to remember which one is which, but the pinion nut (companion flange) or the flange nut on the T-case is supposed to be 300 ft-lbs.

Re: EAST COAST--BE CAREFUL!!
Work closing at noon for the next 2 days, Interstates and limited access roads shut down at 1pm. Storm continues to intensify and morph into a hybrid, and I'm not talking a Prius!

Re: Toughest task on your M37?
For me it was the rear axle pinion seal (the first time, second time it came right out). Ended up taking 5 hours with various chisels, pullers, hammers, pry bars and a Dremel tool with many cut off disks. Lots of care, too, as not to damage the axle housing. That's to date, we'll have to see if anyt...

Re: Synthetic Oil and M37s....don't shoot me!
We all know this topic keeps coming up. Maybe I'll just put some of my thoughts out here, FWIW. About synthetics, where is the economy? They are much more expensive so what do you get (or what do you think you'll get) in the way of a benefit? How much do you drive your M37? My understanding of synth...

Re: the mirror, it looks like the same one I have on the right side of my truck. Mine is slightly convex and is fine with the gun box. I'm always in the right lane anyway......

Re: Which Way Does Hood Star Point???
Somewhere, I recall that in WW2 the star pointed to the rear. After that, they changed it to point toward the front. I know that for Nam, it pointed front. I recall that the change took place somewhere around Korea, +/- 5 years but don't know for sure when. I recall a thread about it either here or ...

IIRC, that thread was for lubes, the question here is more about additives. I've heard good things about Lucas Oil Stabilizer, so I'm going to watch this thread for info.

Re: How Were M's Prepped for Sale To The Public?
I'm going to offer that the Gov't did nothing or next to nothing to them. Most went from the military to local Gov't or other Gov't agencies who would have been responsible for altering their appearance to de-mil them and doing whatever maintenance/repairs were required.

Re: M37's at Red Ball
It was an OK show as far as Gilbert goes, I think the weather threat keep alot of the vehicles away on Saturday. I was told there were more vendors this year, but it seemed like they were either spread out more or smaller or both. Guess I wasn't in a buying mood......
