Re: Brake Bleed Screw

I'll give it another try later on today once it warms up a bit. The bit part being relative - it is minus 2 degrees F outside. At least the wind isn't blowing. I have tried vise grips and a deep socket - no effect - pretty well rounded over. Will try a pipe wrench. My bolt extractor set doesn't go t...

Brake Bleed Screw

Hopefully an easier topic then Josh's Well managed to pop a brake line over the last winter storm pulling a vehicle out of the ditch. Unfortunately and embarrassing enough the vehicle I pulled out was my own plow truck. Replaced the broken brake line – glad it happened on the property and not on the...

Re: What the heck - mystery part in intake valve

I have solved my own puzzle. Just went through my pictures from rebuilding the carb last year. And voila. http://i56.tinypic.com/1yv24i.jpg Not sure the proper term - but it is the little disc on the choke plate. And it was missing from the carburetor when I rebuilt it last winter. As I recall I pul...

What the heck - mystery part in intake valve

So doing a quick and dirty valve / ring job on the old plow truck and found this in the #1 cylinder intake valve, wedged down low around the valve guide. This is a 54 M37 with a transplanted 57 Plymouth Belvedere engine. It’s the same size of a quarter with a small hole in center. Kind of reminds me...

Pulling out the engine

Another funny moment from the life of Jim. Well first let me say we all have our moments. Currently pulling the engine out the M37 Plow Truck affectionately known as the blue plow truck. The truck has a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere engine in it, which needs some love - just pulled the head and found a ba...

Other 230 engines

Starting to debate dropping a donor engine into my M37 plow truck. It currently has a Plymouth 230 from a ’57 Belvedere, and that engine has a mix of civilian / military parts on it (civilian distributor, military oil pump etc). I have done a compression test and 1 to 5 shows 60 to 70 psi with a bum...

I would agree with all of the above. The only parts that I found useful were the carb and governor rebuild chapters. Scored a free copy the other day and promptly put it on ebay - went for 125.00 over the pond to Europe. All that having been said I can send along digital copies of the carb and gover...

I also always add a layer of flagging tape just below the surface. That way if you or someone else is digging in the future it serves to remind you of what is down there. I have dug up (by accident) a couple main 440 power lines with the backhoe that were not marked. Luckily I never nicked or severe...

Hey Josh If you have not buried the line yet - add a length of twine or fishing line - just in case you ever need to pull another piece of wire thru the conduit in the future. That will save you lots of frustration in the future. I always add two pieces of extra line / fish tape - just in case I nee...

True it is a good winch - but with my merchant marine background I am always slightly distrustful of batteries. I have seen too many battery banks die, or someone drain the batteries below a healthy level. Or some ding a ling deck hand leave a bilge pump running over night and come morning the skiff...

Hey Josh Truck came with the winch. Old fire / brush truck from midcoast Maine. From what I have been told it sat inside the firehouse for close to 30 years. Until one of the volunteer fire fighters bought it, right about then I entered the picture and bought it off of him. The winch works pretty go...

Anybody attend the flea market?
After a four hour drive - purchased 20 bucks worth of stuff and started the drive back home. Was surprised to see some vendors packing up only half way through the event.
