Murf, I have 2 31P-5 batteries in the M. They just fit width wise in the battery box. http://www.batterysales.com/powerking-detail.cfm?model=31P-5 With larger batteries you need more charging capacity. The old boat anchor generator doesn't put out enough to charge larger batteries than the SP22NF on...

It is my understanding that all the early vehicles used the original hood markings as U.S.A., U.S.N., U.S.A.F. up until about 1956 or sooner when the trucks were rebuilt and the lettering system changed to the U.S. ARMY on the hood and the U.S. NAVY, U.S. AIR FORCE on the doors. at the bottom of the page is the pdf for AF markings.
Number possibly would be 52A 2066.
