Re: Steering knuckle lube
Thank you for your suggestions. I've just ordered some M22 Flat Copper Washers. Maybe the one I used (Copper crush gasket - #MS35769-18) was incorrect or I installed it upside down, if that's possible. Once I receive the new washer, I'll drain the lubricant (AMSOIL 75W-90 Long Life 100% Synthetic) a...

Re: steering box lube
Good advice about lube products, but still wondering if there is a drain plug in the steering box.

Re: Steering knuckle lube
My knuckles have healed, I am back to work on my M37. I left off at getting some very helpful advice. Thank you all. Now my question is: Wouldn't a zerk fitting work well as a zerk plug in the steering knuckle? And while on the topic of lubrication, I've changed the lube in the rear differential, in...

Re: Steering knuckle lube
Thank you for the assistance. I'm going to climb under the axle after a three week vacation (with no grease) and see what's what.

Re: Drivetrain road noise
I just got an M37 and know next to nothing about maintenance/repair... yet. My driving skills are improving, but one thing that does bug me is the whine I hear while tooling around. I thought it was just my truck, so it's somewhat comforting to know that I'm not alone.

Steering knuckle lube
The technical manual says to remove the plug at the bottom of the steering knuckle then shoot grease in from the top. I can find the top zerk fitting but the bottom plug is a mystery. If the plug is that bump among the four bolts securing the plate (see photo), there is no way to remove it. I'm stum...

Re: steering box lube
Cal_Gary, finding this website is like finding the Rosetta Stone of M37s. Already I've had members help me. I'm sure I'll be asking lots of newbie questions and getting terrific advice.

Re: steering box lube
Thank you Rdinatal. Just placed an order for the washers. Now comes the fun part: Crawling under the truck to drain/add oil.

Re: steering box lube
Elwood, Thank you for the sage advice. I do not know what oil or even what liquid is in the steering box. I'm guessing that there is no way to test it without sending it off to some expensive lab, so I'll dig in. The technical manual is marginally helpful, but I remember seeing some videos online th...

steering box lube
Just took possession of a 1954 M37. One of my first tasks will be to drain/fill all the oils. I’m stumped on the steering box. Is there no drain plug? If not, what’s the procedure for replacing the fluid. If I need to pump out the old oil, what would you suggest for a pump? Also, once figure this ou...
