Re: Oil pump prime?

You can also pop the cover off the pump (beware of the o-ring seal!) and pack the pump with Vaseline to prime it. I usually use a large syringe and really force that jelly into the nooks and crannies of the pump.

Re: Midwest Military - John Bizal

Facebook has been updated. John is out of surgery and appears to be on the mend.

Still has a ways to go on the road to recovery, but he appears to be in good spirits.

Here's to a swift recovery!

Re: Stiff Steering

Give them a call and find out. They are a helpful bunch at VPW; I've never had anything but good interactions with them. Midwest Military has them, but John Bizal had a heart attack a few days ago and I wouldn't bet that his family's first priority is filling new orders quite yet. https://shop.midwe...

Midwest Military - John Bizal

Hey all just saw on FB that John is in the hospital because of a heart attack. Posting here in case you don't use FB.

Hope he pulls through and that he and his family can weather this well!

Re: Timing after Elec. upgrade

Thirded on the tooth.

You can dial it back in perfect with a vacuum gauge once the distributor is back in correctly. If you don't have one I recommend getting one and learning to use it. Very handy diagnosis tool.

Re: Normal oil consumption?

Interesting. How long is the dip stick supposed to be? This thread had a discussion of the dip stick for the 251 engine: http://www.g741.org/PHPBB/viewtopic.php?p=76402#p76402 "The requested page could not be found." Is that metric or SAE measurements? I think the link is broken.

Excessive Oil consumption

I went out off-roading yesterday and had to put about a quart of oil in the engine even though I had topped it off the night before. I've known for a while that the truck consumes oil, but since I don't drive it that much it has never been that apparent. The exhaust pipe was wet with oil which leads...

Re: Replacement Fuel Tank

I love it!

When I was restoring my fuel situation I looked all over for a replacement and didn't like the S10 tanks as a solution. I finally bit the bullet and bought a stainless steel one. That was before the world went crazy, though. Still, this is a practical solution to a common problem. 10/10.

This one is a '53 as well. It must have been a dealer option or something.

Can you upload a picture of the placement?

Auxillary Power Port

Can someone show me a picture of where the auxillary power port (for map light and "other accessories" whatever that means) is installed? Midwest Military has the ports for $15 each and the description says it goes to the right of the glove box, but there's no indication on the truck that ...

Re: Transportation

I thought hot shot would be the way to go too, but I wasn't sure.

This thing is quite different than the other vehicles I shipped so I guess my head was thinking it would need some kind of special accommodation.

Really it's just a truck with a bigger back wheel when you get down to it.

Transportation

This is not a post about an M37, but I could sure use some help from the MV community...

Does anyone have any good contacts or ideas on how to move a non-running halftrack from MS to IN?

It's non-running and all the armor has been stripped off. I'd estimate that it is about 10,000 lbs max.

Rear Canvas Flapping

Went to the local cars and coffee this morning and my rear canvas was flapping around like a garrison flag in a stiff wind. It wasn't particularly windy, but the little wind there was combined with the blistering (ha) speed of the M37 certainly created some motion. What's the best way to secure the ...
