Re: MS37 Cowl Vent Repair
I bet it’s going to look good when it’s all done. The cowl vent is kind of a tricky piece to replicate but I like how you are coming at it. I have always found sheet metal work to be the kind of work that consumes a lot of time but in the end it always shows when you take your time and do it right. ...

Re: Broken valve
It’s odd that this happened while you were driving. It’s my understanding that sticky valves usually occurs from sitting, and the valve hangs open on startup which isn’t the case here. The other culprit that is often blamed is the use of ethanol gas. If this was an overhead cam engine I would wonder...

Merry Christmas!
Wish you all the best over the holidays, and plenty of time wrenching and driving old green trucks in 2021.

After a little more looking around, I think you’re absolutely right, NOS is going to be the best option. I’ll have to give him a call after the holidays and go from there.
Merry Christmas!

Leaf Spring Rebuild
Hi guys, So I have the rear springs out of the truck to be cleaned up and have the centre bolts and rebound clips replaced. While cleaning the leaves up to be painted, I found several of them are cracked in the centre on one side only. (There goes all that work!) Looks like instead of a cleaning and...

Re: Grandpa’s M37
I just went through this job as well, but luckily my seal came out without too much effort. I opted to replace the old leather seal with a new SKF seal, reusing the old seal housing. I also replaced the nut on the pinion gear as it was all cracked up too. My flange has a large dust shield on it too,...

Re: Front Differential Removal
If I remember correctly, you will need to remove the wheel, hub/drum and the bearings to access the stub axle. Then after removing the stub axle you can pull out the axle shafts. The knuckle and the steering gear can be left alone. If you have any doubts, just take a look in the manual. It’s pretty ...

Re: How to test negative battery ground?
Haha well that explains it! At least these vehicles are pretty robust when it comes to being hooked up backwards. I’m glad you guys got it sorted out. On to the next thing!
Cheers

Re: How to test negative battery ground?
Well, it sounds like you’re on the right track then. Yes you should get 0 resistance when you check the cable on it’s own. However, if the cable looks to be in questionable shape then you are better off replacing it anyway. Minor amounts of resistance will still cause issues with starting a vehicle,...

Re: How to test negative battery ground?
I would get yourself a multimeter and check to see if you have voltage out to the lights or not. That would be a good starting point. You can run some jumper cables from the negative post of the battery to a clean spot on the frame and see if that makes a difference. If it does, you know you have a ...

No worries. I’m only giving my 2 cents as I have two of the Canadian transmissions here.

Re: Stovebolt T5 transmission swap?
T98 I think you meant. And yes it’s synchronized 2-3-4. The case that is used is a Canadian design but the innards are T98.
I recall the input shaft being different from othe T98 trans as well, but I think that’s one of the only things.

Re: Braden LU4 Rebuild
Sounds like that winch really didn’t want to come apart. I imagine sitting out on the front of the truck they collect a lot of road dirt (and up here, salt) during their service days. Combined with infrequent use, I can see how they are often neglected items on these trucks. I’m glad to read your wr...
