Re: Battery Cable Specifications

Thanks John ! I've hunted around as I vaguely recall someone posting directions on how to build new cables. It sure would be nice to track down a TM 9-1808A-2 Electrical System book. I was able to find the following: " #2 grade fine stranded cable would be plenty in a typical stock M37 applicat...

Battery Cable Specifications

Hi there folks, I had a run through the TMs and could not find a reference to the sizes and lengths of the Battery Cables ? They look like they might be 1/0 Gauge ? Does anyone know how much Current is pulled by the Starter when it's cranking ? Finally, has anyone installed accessories that required...

Original Wood used for the Troop Seats

Hi folks,

I tried several searches on this subject with no luck.

What was the original Wood used for the Troop Seats ?

I've seen folks using Mahogany and White Oak and since they are normally painted, I'm guessing it's not a big deal ?

However for the books, was it Pine ???

Thanks

Re: Fuel Pump Manual Operating Characteristics

Hi folks, put in the Fuel Pump today and got the truck running. I replaced the output port on the pump as the old one had been stretched, that was the hardest part to find. ( It turned out to be a 3/8-18 NPT Male to 5/16-20 Inverted Flare. ) The truck started right up ( Thanks again to the great reb...

Fuel Pump Connection

Hi there folks, **** Updating the information. While the OD was 5/8" the actual NPT sizing is 3/8 inch, not 5/8 **** This makes finding the part much easier, ( I really need to learn NPT sizing specs ) My existing fuel pump has a male 3/8-18 NPT 90 elbow to a female 5/16-20 inverted flare end. ...

Re: Fuel Pump Manual Operating Characteristics

LOL Yuppers that would do it. Interesting find ... The Old Fuel Pump was full of oil in the bottom vacuum section. I'm guessing that the gaskets are cooked in the pump and engine oil is leaking into the bottom ? This might explain my burning oil issue since the line goes straight into the Intake Man...

Re: Fuel Pump Manual Operating Characteristics

Thanks so much Ashyers ! I did have some issues with the link between the line under the Rad connecting to the ShutOff Cock. ( Slow leak ) once I removed the Shutoff Cock, the leak was repaired. ( I am assuming that this particular end is a little longer than the others along the gas line. ) However...

Re: Fuel Pump Manual Operating Characteristics

One last question on this thread.

I have a Fuel Pump coming from MidWest today.

The TM makes no mention whether the Oil needs to be drained first from the pan ?

There is a gasket there, so I assume that oil is channelled somewhere here ?

Anyone pull one of these puppies ?

Re: Shifter Question

Hey there guys, The shaft is assembled from below, with several parts upside down. The 88950 is a little different from the T98 ( CDN version ) I rebuilt the 88950 using the Restoration Guide TM, with parts from MidWest Military. ( Pics and comments in another thread ) I also rebuilt a T98 using par...

Re: Fuel Pump Manual Operating Characteristics

Hi folks, found a great test procedure in the CDN TM. ( CDN-VEH-D114) Page 15 Para 179 "Disconnect fuel pump to carburetor line at carburetor and attach a bleeder hose to Fuel Pump. With outlet of bleeder hose at Carburetor level or higher, the flow of fuel should be at leaast on pint in 45 sec...

Fuel Pump Manual Operating Characteristics

Hi there folks, I've recently replaced all Fuel Lines from the Tank to the Pump. The truck starts and turns over, however sputters out quickly. There are no line leaks anywhere. I primed the line attached to the Carb with gas and the truck, ran fine, then quit a short time later. I removed a gas lin...

Inline Fuel Filter / Gas Filter Replacement

Hi folks, I have an old style canister filter between the Fuel Pump and the Carb. I recently changed my Gas Lines and now the engine turns over but does not idle. I'm guessing that dirt at the bottom of the tank has blocked the existing filter. There are many replacements at local autoparts stores, ...

Re: Gas Line Replacement Specifications

Wow ! I am totally embarrassed. I did some research on the manufacturer and found out that they mislabeled the Line. They put a 5/16" label on a 3/8 inch line. ( Hence the ID is 5/16 and the OD is 3/8) Mystery solved ! Send request for the correct product to the manufacturer ( FMSI Automotive )...
