Re: jeep head studs?

Thanks for the reply, I think the Dodge WWII WC Dodges used studs.

jeep head studs?

Hello, I recently noticed that my new Willys MB head studs would seem to work in my Dodge 230 engine. Same thread on block end and a good amount of thread on nut end, plus torque values for the nuts are close to the values on the 230 bolts.. Since studs for the 230 engine are kind of hard to find,is...

Piston assembly

I removed the pistons and rods from a parts engine and noticed that the oil holes on the big end of the conrods are on the same side as the slots on the pistons, aren't the oil holes supposed to be on the opposite of the piston slots? This engine is an original unrebuilt unit and it just needs new c...

WTK about troop seat back boards

DSC04513Boards.JPG Hi all, I'm restoring the boards on my '1953 and am curious about the seat back boards on the passenger side by the cab, they have been shaved down on the ends about 1/8 inch deep just beyond the carriage bolts, I'm pretty sure the boards are original to the truck and am wonderin...

Re: Advice needed on head install

Yeah, paint., When I bought my truck I wondered what shade of OD it was, good paint job but I couldn't match it to anything. The seller said he had it sprayed with forest green and gave me a can of Aervoe. When I sprayed a part with it it didn't match the truck . Years later I got some paint chips f...

Re: Advice needed on head install

That is a very big hunk of iron hanging there! Really clear shots of everything, thanks. I appreciate the time to explain your experience putting the engine together. It amazing how much weight can hang on a couple of pieces of hardware in that bracket, scary.
Thank you for your service .

Re: Advice needed on head install

Nice setup. You mentioned the VPW website recommending the torque values for the bolts vs stud nuts, what about the torque for the studs themselves when installing them in the block using the allen wrench?

Re: Advice needed on head install

Thank you,
Nice looking engine. You've brought up good points about using studs, I'm going to go that route. I don't know the origin of the studs that were given to me so I'll probably order the ARP stuff. Is there a torque setting for the stud install or just tight?.
Thanks again,
Bob

Advice needed on head install

Hi, I'm about to install the head on my 230 and need some advice. I have two options, use head bolts or studs. Would studs put less wear and tear on the block threads in case they have to be removed again ? I have a set of new studs and the original bolts. Use original bolts or buy new bolts or use ...

Hi,
Hard to tell from picture but if it's a solid complete and running truck I'd say it's a good price.

Thanks all,
You guys have the experience, good enough for me. I tend to dwell on details but I figure it's better to overthink than to underthink stuff.

Re: Bolt torque with lube

W30bob,
Thanks for the reply. 65 to 70 ft/lbs is what's specified in the TM , no sealant mentioned that I'm aware of, so I guess I'll hold off reassembly for a while.
