sudden electrical failure

I was pushing snow up a hill in the dark the other morning and suddenly the truck just stopped running and went dark. Total electrical failure. Lights out, no fuel pump, no starter, no gauges, nothing. I opened the battery box to check connections ( I recently replaced a battery) and didn't see anyt...

rear wheel hub replacement

I have 2 studs snapped off in my driver's side rear wheel hub. They are in so tight the easy out snapped out when I tried to remove them. Now I can't even drill them to try another easy out. I was thinking of buying a replacement hub but was told the hubs are mated/balanced to the brake drum and it ...

windshield removal

I am thinking of taking my windshield off so I can strip and repaint it. Is there any secret to disconnecting the vacuum line that goes through the hinge on the driver's side?

Thanks

Re: Piston ring job

I've rebuilt 3 engines in my life. The first was my 70 Landcruiser 35 years ago. Still driving it on that rebuild. Did a 4 cylinder Toyota in 90 and a Saturn in 2008. They are all still running strong. I just need to refresh my knowledge and get some specifics on the M-37 engine. First thing I looke...

Re: Piston ring job

Is there a table in one of the TMs with the spec for piston/ring measurements? How about for the bearings? Or is it just general mechanic knowledge?

Piston ring job

Ok, after replacing the bad valve I did a wet dry compression test. results were: cyl 1 2 3 4 5 6 dry 61 62 54 60 72 28 wet 90 85 72 89 92 50. Pretty clear indication the rings need to be replaced. I have a couple of questions for the more experience M37 mechanics among us. 1. This engine was suppos...

Valve removal

I have a burned #6 exhaust valve I want to replace. I've already pulled the hood and fender and the head. Getting at the #6 exhaust seems pretty difficult. Does anyone have a good procedure to use? I do have the special valve spring compressing tool.

Thanks

Re: transmission Main drive gear removal

How did you get it loose? MIne won't budge. The TM calls for that to come off first, but can you skip that step and go to pulling the main shaft out?

transmission Main drive gear removal

I am going through the disassembly process on the transmission in my '52 M37. The Tm calls for a special tool ( 41-P-2956-30) to pull the main drive gear bearing assembly. Does anyone know: 1. where to get one of these pullers? 2. A suitable replacement tool? 3. A procedure to remover the bearing as...

Re: valve adjustment

When doing the valve adjustment (cold) is here an easier process than the one outlined in the TM (i.e. remove front wheel, inside fender well, etc)? Doing it cold is already much easier than trying to do it with the engine hot and running.
